Artístas y Músicos Latinoamericanos (AMLA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) arts and artist’s organization founded in 2006 in North Philadelphia. It is a subsidiary corporation of Esperanza Inc. The mission of AMLA is to promote the development, dissemination, and understanding of Latin American music and culture in the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Region, with a strong emphasis on youth.

The Youth Artists Program (YAP) is an after school art training program for high school students to support the development of art skills and academic competencies with the final goal of stimulating the pursuit of post-high-school education. YAP provides students an opportunity to build a substantial portfolio of work for art college application or other post-secondary pursuits. Our program gives young artists the tools they will need to thrive in a creative economy. No prior artistic training is necessary but desires to learn, responsibility and commitment are a must.

For five years I worked as the curator/manager for the Visual Arts Program at the Taller Puertorriqueño (The Puerto Rican Workshop), an arts and cultural center in the heart of Latino Philadelphia. It was an environment that encouraged me to be multifaceted while learning new skills in community development. My experience in non profit provided a positive platform to work independently and collaboratively.While at the Taller I managed a program called Noche de Artes (Night of Arts) which was a business and arts collaborative in North Philadelphia. The program was founded by a group called La Colectiva and funded by the Knight Foundation. The program showcased local artists monthly in businesses along the 5th street corridor known as El Centro de Oro (The Golden Block). I organized all the artists and documented surveys for participation. After this program I was promoted to Visual Arts Manager for the Lorenzo Homar Gallery.While working as the Visual Arts Manager at the Taller I was in charge of all administrative responsibilities for the program including the maintenance of the archives and marketing of the exhibitions. As an administrator I wore many hats and understood the need to be flexible in a small organization.Working at the Taller was a great experience because it allowed me to develop essential office skills and enhance my Spanish language and writing skills.- In house graphic designer- Artist documentation and Archives- Publishing- Marketing assistance-Docent for tour groups- Lecturer on Latin American Arts2005 to 2011
