I joined Drs. Foster and Smith in a challenging period for the company and face many challenges across a wide spectrum due to higher than average employee turnover and considerable changes at the management level.I am accountable for managing and improving the production e-commerce environment and many development functions. This responsibility set dovetails with working with the business to define and implement a continuous cycle of measurable improvements in development practices and cross-department engagement. To support both facets I also am responsible for tool and process introductions that has proven in previous engagements to streamline operations and facilitating other supporting important roles that were previously under represented. Test Operations Engineering is a new position definition in the company as they continue their migration into agile development. I was originally brought in to assess their qa automation capability and coverage across their portfolio of 10 sites that have both full and mobile implementations. The first step was to understand the business and the dynamics and challenges the firm was facing. Then with those discoveries in mind, I invested considerable time and effort performing a baseline assessment of automation effectiveness using industry standards on the topics of application coverage, browser compatibility, customer end point engagement, usage areas, usage patterns and basic performance considerations.After a successful presentation on the findings to both existing QA members and management, many of the suggestions I laid out were adopted. The role was expanded to spearheading a team and working directly with management to retool and redesign the automation. This new plan was built with cooperative input and feedback with all vested partners, incorporating a balance of capability, budget awareness and skill training needs. I created the original proof of concept for a Continuous Integration backbone using Selenium, TestNG, Java, Jenkins, Bonobo, MSSQL and Eclipse on the technical front, and defining the concepts of smoke/smell/regression testing timelines and scope on the business front.This proof of concept illustrated that even with systems as complicated as ours, it was possible to accomplish most facets of Continuous Integration and reap the benefits of doing so. In the next phase we assembled a team of individuals with various skills and experience across the enterprise to allow us to touch nearly every facet of the systems without relying entirely on outside units which would have greatly slowed down our progress. As a senior developer at this firm, I work in multiple areas such as performance engineering, SharePoint and Information Technology departments. In PE I use cutting edge tools, some I have built, and following industry templates and practices, I test and review applications to provide guidance on trouble spots and bottlenecks to enhance the performance, scalability, and responsiveness of custom applications. I have spearheaded custom SharePoint development initiatives across internal facing, customer facing and custom client development efforts. This is a massive space and I am looking forward to continuing to grow in this area.I've been known to support/augment the IT operations when overflow resources are needed or especially challenging issues have posed a disruption for operations or where turnover occurs. This company has an exciting CDSC idea growing rapidly engaging mostly new people to the industry and extensively training them in our methods and tools. This creates a whole new dynamic to the consulting opportunities for Collaborative and I am proud of what we have been able to create. We still have challenges and I am working on understanding how to improve our operations and better serve our peers so we can introduce improved processes.
