The focus of this laboratory is to find new insights into the biological aging process. The research taking place utilizes principles of biochemistry and molecular biology in the context of drug discovery in order to further understand certain natural/longevity products which may have the potential to increase a healthy lifespan. Project 1: Drug Discovery Project on triiodothyronine (T3) and ergothioneine (EGT) Studying the impact of T3 in the aging process of cellular senescence. Researching the potential protective impacts of EGT against cellular senescence. Culture 2 Adherent Cell lines: Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts (MEFs) and Human Embryonic Kidney (HEK).Project 2: Enzymology Project on the Novofumigatonin biosynthetic pathwayValidating the synthesis of the anti-aging therapeutic compound, Novofumigatonin, using the Nvf family of proteins.The Journal Club for the Liu Group Lab: An opportunity to research and discuss recent scientific papers in order to continue growing knowledge in Biotechnology/Biochemistry and Drug Discovery.

Shadowing under Dr. Michael G Kaiser, Director of Spine Surgery at Neurosurgeons of New Jersey. Currently observing his patient care techniques as well as joining him in the OR to view a variety of surgical procedures, including spinal decompression and spinal fusion.

The overall goal of the research is to understand the molecular and cellular basis of synaptic function in order to understand further implications with neurodegeneration and neurodevelopment. In particular, my project focuses on the gene FOXR1 which has associations with developmental delay.Developing Research Skills:- Cryostat Brain Slicing- DNA Extraction and Genotyping- PCR- Gel Electrophoresis- Immunohistochemistry (Various Staining Techniques)- Confocal / Fluorescent Microscopy
