In addition to the RSW role, I am responsible for ensuring that systems are developed and that effective PBS strategies are implemented in accordance with ‘Children’s Homes Regulations 2015’. I am responsible for mentoring my colleagues and cascading the skills I have acquired to help them through their own career progression and development plans. I liaise with practitioners and key professionals involved in the care of the clients, keeping accurate records of their visits and their outcomes. I promote an enabling environment, ensuring high standards of professional practice to empower my clients to live as independently as possible with the appropriate levels of support. I facilitate person-centred reviews and make detailed records of my observations surrounding the client’s care. I then analyse this data and the information gathered from myself and other professionals to compile highly accurate and detailed reports of the clients. Through my experiences, I have gained knowledge of public sector frameworks and how to appropriately liaise and work in partnership with other professionals.

In this role, I was responsible for providing specialist care and support to children and young people with learning disabilities, challenging behaviours, Autism, ADHD, and other developmental disorders. The clients that I worked had endured early childhood traumas including neglect, sexual exploitation, and domestic abuse. I was required to work directly with the children and young people, ensuring the highest level of care and safeguarding while facilitating their development and progression in their education, relationships, independence, and their health and wellbeing, enabling them to achieve their optimum potential. This was achieved through effective implementation of positive behaviour support plans and strategies.

For this role I worked with a range of children diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and related disorders, including Down Syndrome and Trauma-related Brain Injuries. I helped to facilitate appropriate social interaction between clients as well as teach clients age-appropriate play skills and independence skills. I helped to manage client’s challenging behaviour, via implementation of Behavioural Intervention Plans.I Implemented client’s independent curriculum programs, which included those relating to language development, communication, academics, and adaptive skill acquisition. I was responsible for detailed data tracking and recording as well as building rapport and a close working relationship with the parents and families of the clients.
