Having worked in services focussed industries, we decided that we would like to start a goods based business for scalability and export potential. We appreciated that we needed a product that was durable and also in an industry with high barriers to entry. After the birth of our first child and seeing a gap in the market for modern designer nursery furniture we began the task of making our own. It has been like undergoing an MBA on the go! We had to design, prototype, test for safety standards, source overseas suppliers, secure our intellectual property, sampling, importation of the products and that's all before we began building the brand itself and associated marketing, sales and daily warehouse operations of running a consumer goods brand. In 2010 when we first launched our products to the Australian market B2B was the only option. We took exhibited our products at a USA trade show and secured a partner to handle that territory since 2012 and with the relationship still going strong today. Over the last 7 or 8 years we have pushed into D2C, operating multiple eCommerce websites since 2015 has been a real learning opportunity about the future of selling consumer goods.

We made the decision to combine our complementary skill sets to enable continued growth while facilitating the growing demands of the family. Staying in the fast paced events industry but now responsible for the operational staff and delivery of major events like the spring carnival at Flemington and the Formula 1 in Albert Park. It was my first introduction to P&L responsibility and by directly reporting to the owner of the business I learnt all about the business directly from him. This was really an enjoyable job where I developed both process and personal in a 24 hour - 7 day business.
