Undergraduate ResearcherGeorgia Institute Of Technology May 2013 - Dec 2013Atlanta, Georgia , UsSummer and Fall 2013, I worked in the Jones Lab on carbon dioxide capture. -Responsible for the synthesis, preparation, and testing of supported amine materials for the capture of carbon dioxide from flue gases and ambient air. These materials were powders that contained various carbon dioxide capturing amines bonded to silica or alumnia compounds that acted as anchors.- Use lab synthesis and analysis machines including rotary vacuums, Thermogravimetric analysis machines (TGA), lab-scale fixed bed reactors, and vacuum filtration systems. - My research specifically focused on the process of pressing these powders into pellets for use in fluidized beds. The powders I synthesized were pressed into pellets at various pressures and their carbon capture rates were measured. The results were published in a paper in March 2015.- Assembled test data into a report turned into my advising professor and graduate student.- Collaborated with multiple undergraduate and graduate students to develop testing methods -
Undergraduate ResearcherGeorgia Institute Of Technology May 2012 - Aug 2012Atlanta, Georgia , UsThe summer of 2012 I worked in the Grover lab on the synthesis of polymers under primordial conditions. -Responsible for developing experimental methods that would be used in future experiments-Troubleshooting of machinery for automatic testing including debugging code written by a graduate student and teaching other undergraduates how to use machinery-Specific laboratory skills utilized include micropipetting and preparing GPC samples. - Collaborated with two other undergraduate researchers to develop a poster that was displayed at a Center for Chemical Evolution conference. Along with my two collaborators, presented the poster to conference goers.-Developed a end-of-semester report detailing my research and methods for use by future researchersMy research was used in a paper presented at a polymer science conference in Munich, Germany in May 2013. -
