In order to apply cryo-EM to my research project, I spent three months at the University of Washington, where I received advanced training on electron microscopy, direct detection cameras and advanced data processing software. - Advanced training with the electron microscope Tecnai F20 200kv equipped with a state-of-the-art K2 Summit direct electron detection camera.- Extensive training in protein preparation for cryo-electron microscopy work.- Performed cryo-EM data collections using Leginon, advanced software for automated cryo-EM data acquisition and remote microscope handling. - Performed data processing using GPUs and CPUs on computer clusters for fast treatment of terabyte-sized datasets.

Research work for Masters thesis, working with an ABC bacterial transporter with the goal of studying it by solid state nuclear magnetic resonance. The transporter was useful as a model to study the mechanisms involved in multi-drug resistance. - Production of a multidrug resistance membrane protein with bacterial cultures in rich LB and minimal M9 media. - Carbone-13 and Nitrogen-15 enrichment of the protein for solid-state NMR experiments. - Purification of a membrane protein through chromatography techniques- Enzymatic characterization of the ATPase activity of the protein- Protein preparation and analysis using solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Additionally, I developed various skills ranging from literature research, project presentations, molecular biology, recombinant protein production and purification.
