I coordinated the Amazon PRODES Project, of the Amazon and other Biomes Program (PAMZ+), which objective is to monitor and quantify the annual deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon by remote sensing. The data produced are used in the certification of agricultural production chains such as soy and beef, and in intergovernmental agreements that aim at reducing GHG emissions (REDD+). My duties were diverse: setting the objectives and organizing the work of the team (approx. 20 members), recruitment, data production and quality monitoring, data analysis, scientific knowledge production and dissemination, methodological improvement, product or system development, Project representation to partners and users, connection with external collaborators and authorities request processing.I participated in other projects related to the monitoring of vegetation cover in the Amazon and associated with PAMZ+, such as (i) satellite detection of deforestation and forest degradation in near real time ( DETER, DETER Intenso and DETER Radar), which use varied methods (visual interpretation, automatic detection, multisensor data...) to meet the demands of the environmental agencies responsible to fight against deforestation, (ii) monitoring the suppression of non-forest native vegetation in the Brazilian Amazon, (iii) initiatives for monitoring secondary forest vegetation by remote sensing.
