As a researcher for the Neurosciences at Capital Health Medical Center, I am interested in neurooncology, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and various sociological factors that influence stroke recovery outcomes. Additionally I pursued interests in pain medicine and opioid management and TIA. Projects include understanding the symptomatology of new brain metastases after radiation therapy, the effects of a prehospital stroke alert on door-to-treatment times, evaluating the contribution of the SOAPP-R questionnaire as a risk-predictor for opioid abuse and misuse and lastly, whether or not ED physicians can safely discharge patients with TIA.

Shadyside

As a volunteer at UPMC Shadyside I am privileged with being able to spend time with patients on 6-Main, a floor with a large Cystic Fibrosis unit. Under the supervision of floor manager Blaney Firestone and Patient Relations Corrdinator Marcy Wolf, I am part of a patient satisfaction program that aims to gauge hospital satisfaction scores in order to learn how the hospital can improve in quality of care delivered to patients and overall patient satisfaction.

As a Notetaker for the Disability Resource Services (DRS) that is contracted by the University of Pittsburgh, I took notes for students with a mental or physical disability, or both. Subject areas that I took notes for include astronomy, biology, chemical engineering, mathematics, physics and political science.

Pittsburgh

As an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. I taught and led weekly recitation sections for small groups of students (~5-10 students) where I reviewed major concepts and addressed the questions and any misconceptions that students may have had. My responsibilities included designing weekly problem sets, helping to proctor and grade exams as well as hosting additional review sessions before exams for the students.

As a research extern at Capital Health I am responsible for collecting, organizing, analyzing and evaluating data for clinical research studies. The main areas of research that I am involved in are neurocardiology, specifically strokes, aneurysms and AVMs; as well as neurooncology. I also have conducted informed consents with prospective study patients. Additionally I have created and organized multi-departmental work-flows for various clinical trials.

Feasterville, Pa

As one of the managers of the Dolphin Swim Club my main responsibility was to manage and lead the lifeguards and address any swim club member issues so that the lifeguards could effectively monitor the pool area without distractions.

Pittsburgh

As a volunteer for the non-profit organization Jumpstart, Inside the classroom I helped pre-school aged children develop their reading and writing skills through visits twice a week. Outside of the classroom I created a weekly lesson plan approved by my coordinators that focused on reading comprehension and phonetic skills for the child.
