Dr. Daniel Engelman is a cardiac surgeon and Medical Director of the Heart, Vascular and Critical Care Unit and inpatient surgical services at Baystate Medical Center. He is a Professor of Surgery, Population Science & Healthcare Delivery at The University of Massachusetts - Baystate, School of Medicine. He started the International Enhanced Recovery After Cardiac Surgery (ERAS® Cardiac) Nonprofit Society to internationally standardize perioperative best practices and publish the first consensus guidelines. This has been downloaded over 300,000 times and is the most cited manuscript in JAMA Surgery. He is the Senior Editor for Perioperative Care for the Annals of Thoracic Surgery and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr. Engelman participates on workforces for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Association of Thoracic Surgery. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed publications and is the Steering Committee Chair for 2 international prospective trials for the prevention of postoperative acute kidney injury. He has organized perioperative symposium at most major international surgical meetings on advances in critical care medicine, healthcare informatics and finance, and enhanced recovery after cardiac surgery. In 2016 Dr. Engelman was named the National ACS/STS Health Policy Scholar. He is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management at The Heller School of Brandeis University. He was a Research Fellow at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Engelman received his clinical training in cardiothoracic surgery at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. He received his B.A. with honors from the University of Pennsylvania and M.D. from the New York University School of Medicine.

The Massachusetts Society of Thoracic Surgeons aims to educate cardiothoracic surgeons in Massachusetts on the standards and criteria for collecting patient data as part of the Massachusetts Data Analysis Center (Mass-DAC) regulations. To achieve their mission the Society works directly with Mass-DAC to ensure the most current information is available to the cardiothoracic surgery community.

The Greater Springfield Independent Practice Association (GSIPA) is a membership organization of the 1200 physicians on staff at the three hospitals owned by Baystate Health. The treasurer chairs the finance committee, which drafts, seeks approval, and oversees the operating budget. Active on the GSIPA board of directors since 1996.

The participating providers on this list have chosen to participate with PVAC because they are committed to providing you with a high quality health care experience.Any patient who has multiple doctors probably understands the frustration of fragmented and disconnected care. ACOs are designed to improve the partnership between patients and doctors in making healthcare decisions. Medicare beneficiaries will have improved control over their health care, and their doctors can provide quality care because they will have improved information about their patient's medical history and can communicate with the patient's other doctors. Medicare beneficiaries whose doctors participate in an ACO will still have a full choice of providers and can still choose to see doctors outside of the ACO. Patients choosing to receive care from providers participating in ACOs will have access to information about how well their doctors, hospitals, or other caregivers are meeting quality standards.

The 21st Century Cardiothoracic Surgical Society (21CCSS) is a group of leading cardiothoracic surgeons committed to the advancement of cardiac and thoracic research, technology and new clinical applications. The society was founded in 1992 by a group of academically inclined young surgeons and has grown to a membership of 65. 21CCSS holds the Annual Meeting over Presidents' Weekend in February and dinners at professional meetings.
