The Exmoor Carbon Project is an accredited UNESCO Biosphere Business Partner and in a 20 year partnership with the National Trust as part of the DEFRA Land Recovery Scheme on the N.West coast of Exmoor National Park.We own and manage beautiful tracks of (damaged) ancient woodland (a PAWs site; Plantation on Ancient Woodland) on Exmoor National park for the purpose of:- Ancient Woodland Restoration- Sequestering Carbon- Increasing local biodiversity- Protecting ancient and veteran trees- Helping to establish and maintain rural employment on ExmoorIts founding purpose in the short term was to ensure Made For Drink (a UK based Premium Bar Snacks business www.madefordrink.com) is Carbon Neutral as it works towards its Net Zero ambitions.However as we move forward with the project we have learnt and recognise that protecting, strengthening, rejuvenating and making our existing woodland more productive is by far the most important thing we can do. Discovering that the site we purchased was a PAWs site was the pivot point: Only 2% of ancient woodland remains (it’s a rare and special habitat that links our woodlands today to our native forests of the past. The species within them, only survive there and when they are gone, they are gone) and half of it is damaged by plantations. Restoring that 1% is arguably more important than planting a 1000 new forests. So that’s what we spend alot of our time doing, supported by Made For Drink, to carry out that task.CheersDan & JenCo-Founders
