I serve as a tenured Professor engaged studying microbial genomics and informatics. My field of expertise is in cancer cell biology and microbiology. I have also spent the past 15 years as a research administrator, including 8+ years as a Vice President of Research, overseeing all aspects of a University research portfolio, including R&D, Government Relations (federal lobbying), technology transfer and research infrastructure. I have experience overseeing a University Intellectual property portfolio, working with patent lawyers, working with Small Business Development Centers, developing entrepreneurship programs, fostering the establishment of biotech startup companies and engaging in corporate partnerships. I also have experience in accessing investment groups that may seek to invest in biotech startup companies. I have been active as a point person in federal government relations and lobbying on Capitol Hill, led research cooperative agreements with International Universities in England, Israel, as well as research partnerships in France and South America. I was recently selected for a Fulbright Scholar Award in the area of Entrepreneurship, Economic Development and Academic partnerships in France.I was the scientific founder of a biotech company called Protea Biosciences that had a successful exit with an IPO and employed 50 people before being acquired. I served on the board of BioArkive, a San Diego based biotech company, and facilitated a successful exit when it was acquired (M&A) by Immuneering, Inc. I currently serve on the boards of an Ohio-based medical imaging biotech company, a genetics diagnostic company, a biomanufacturing company and a Florida-based clinical services company.
