About Daniel Freeman

As Vice President in Oncology R&D at AstraZeneca, I lead the early Oncology Projects group, which is responsible for developing our portfolio of oncology medicines, from preclinical evaluation to Phase 3 enabling clinical trials.I am committed to seeking out the best science and attracting the best scientific partners, and since joining AstraZeneca in 2016 I have led numerous internal programmes and external collaborations. Building on the breadth of experience, I have helped shape the early oncology development strategy, and contributed to business development and critical portfolio decisions. Testament to my passion for delivering results and bringing meaningful medicines to patients, in 2021 the scope of my role expanded from leading the large molecule portfolio to leading AstraZeneca’s full early development project portfolio. Since then, the early Oncology Projects group has been instrumental in the successful transition of six new molecular entities from early to late development, spanning several of our scientific pillars.Prior to joining AstraZeneca, I held positions of increasing seniority at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Daiichi Sankyo and Amgen. Throughout my 25-year career, I have worked on a breadth of small molecule and antibody programmes within oncology, with a focus on biology, translational medicine and early development.During this time, I’ve enjoyed building multiple cross-functional discovery and development teams, bringing together colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences, with the goal to deliver robust portfolios with the greatest potential for producing effective cancer medicines. I’m particularly proud of having mentored colleagues as they have advanced their careers in the industry.I’ve authored more than 100 papers and conference abstracts about cancer research, and generated 10 patents to date.Outside of work, I enjoy being out in nature and cycling and spending time in my workshop building furniture. My expertise include: project strategy, IO, ADCs, cell therapy, oncology research, biomarkers

Listed skills include Biomarkers, Clinical Development, Drug Development, Oncology, and 18 others.
