After graduating High school in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, I moved to Orlando, Florida to attend the University of Central Florida. There, while studying for my B.S. in Chemistry, I had the opportunity to join the Kuebler Research Group, under Dr. Stephen M. Kuebler. In that research lab which combined optics, chemistry, and physics, I carried out research on polymer resin refinement for photonic crystal production and the electroless metallization of noble-metal nanoparticles. I moved on to Iowa State where I was able to work under Dr. Emily A. Smith in the Smith Research Group. In that lab, I focused my efforts in optical microscopy and spectroscopy studying the photophysics of methylammonium lead halide perovskite nanoparticles as well as the chemical structure of biomass used in the production of biofuels. After graduation, I moved on to work at UbiQD, Inc. where I was able to use my spectroscopy skills to help guide the manufacturing of semiconductor quantum dots and their inclusion into agricultural and renewable energy products.
