Site lead managing Condition Monitoring and Lubrication at BASF Chemicals

I currently manage multiple contracts across the south east region ranging from smaller one visit a month to key contracts where we have engineers posted on site full time. I am responsible for a team of five members, but also spend the majority of my time in the field. I have now held BINDT certification VA3 for one year and prodominantly focus on the VA side of things while on site.

I am currently looking after the vibration analysis at multiple manufacturing sites across the country including food manufacture, power generation and automotive. I have 5 years practical experience in vibration analysis and hold BINDT Level 2 certification. I have recently completed a Level 1 course in Ultrasonic Condition Monitoring and am looking to grow my experience in this area to help deliver an improved service to our customers.

As Reliability Engineer I was responsible for condition monitoring for multiple customers, ranging from coal handling and preparation plants to Ammonium Nitrate explosives manufacturers. Duties included vibration data analysis and reporting, structural inspections and thermography. I was also responsible for gearbox vibration acceptance testing which involved working closely with the client to ensure all gearboxes met ISO standards.

After joining NDT Services Group in November of 2011 I rapidly adjusted to a diverse range of industrial sites which the company serves within the Hunter Valley region, including many coal handling and preparation plants and processing plants. I was responsible for the collection of vibration data from site and writing the reports; advising our customers on the findings and recommending suitable action to ensure maximum plant availability. I acquired additional responsibilities when I progressed to the leading hand position, including job planning, invoicing and customer liaison.

I joined CEMEX in November 2007 as Reliability Technician, reporting to the Reliability Engineer. I became involved with Route Cause Analysis immediately and soon acquired a good understanding for the process. By June 2008 I was managing the entire Route Cause Analysis process for Rugby Plant. I was also involved with vibration analysis (predictive maintenance) from the beginning of my career and since, have received training to BINDT Level 2. After six months I was fully responsible for maintaining and improving the plants vibration analysis, interpreting the acquired data and recommending maintenance activities accordingly. After only 11 months I was promoted to Reliability Coordinator and was managing one full time employee and two full time contractors. This role involved management of the onsite lubrication team and the service contract for the sites compressed air system. It also involved liaising with a wide range of people within the organisation from senior management to shop floor workers on a regular basis. I have been involved in three major Kiln shutdowns and in January 2010 I managed all the NDT (non destructive testing) work. I have experience of area management including a three month spell at the Cement Mills area. This required excellent man management skills and prioritisation to ensure all production critical tasks were performed.

My placement at 3M Health Care I completed two validation projects, successfully commissioning a manufacturing extruder and a sachet seal integrity test unit. Day to day tasks involved investigation of quality incidents that arose during product manufacture, determining the root cause of these quality incidents and creating preventative actions to avoid their recurrence. I had involvement on the manufactured product support team for one of 3M Heath Care's major products and created and maintained a product robustness metric to enable the comparison of this product with other 3M Health Care products.
