I undertook my undergarduate degree in Biological Sciences with a specialisation in Ecology. While working towards my degree I was lucky enough to work as a climate change policy advisor to a small local NGO in Suva, Fiji during a year in industry placement. Upon returning to finish my degree I wrote my dissertation on the solar power industry and the promise it offers in helping solve our energy needs whilst protecting the environemnt. I was very keen to continue working in climate change and specifically the area of renewable energy, so took in internship at a solar power developer (Lightsource Renewable Energy). After 6 months I was given a full time position as a planning assistant as they grew into the biggest solar developer in Europe. After 18 months at Lightsource I found myself wanting a change of environment, so took some part time bar work and street food market roles to gain experience in an industry I am passionate and enthusiastic about. I decided to make this my full time career. I balanced 3 part time jobs in different hospitality areas to increase my skills and experience. I eventually landed a full time role as a chef and barista with a specialty coffee roaster Allpress Espresso. I worked in this role for 18 months, before finding a new position as a cafe and building leader for a new shared office space and cafe in Islington owned by Fabrix Capital.Having gained a diverse set of skills and experiences across mulitple hospitality sectors I am very pleased with what I have gained and where I now find myself. I am still keen to end up working in the renewable energy and climate change sector eventually and am on the look out for oppertnuites to develop my professional experience in this area through volunteering and research.
