As an Officer Cadet in the Royal Navy Reserves I developed leadership skills which are profoundly useful in my day job. My reasoning for joining the reserves was simple - to develop a sense of leadership that inspires others to willingly follow and to make a positive contribution to changing the world for the better.

Determining full and listed planning applications.

I liaised with senior planning officers and conduct appropriate research to respond to all types of planning related general enquires, from householder extensions to proposed changes of use. Additionally I determined householder planning applications, wrote up committee reports and conducted professional duty appointments with planning agents. I also worked closely with the conservation planning team.

I authored the first ever draft Enforcement Policy which was later fully adopted by the Council.Another of my initiatives led to a new method of working, adopted by senior management resulting in the backlog of existing live cases to be reduced from 600 to 50 cases within 6 months. Something never before managed at the Council.

I managed a team of 5 hard working individuals. We consistently beat sales targets, and I wrote several training documents that were adopted by senior management and subsequently used throughout the company to train new and existing staff.

I started DGS Homes after graduating from Uni and gained multiple clients within months of incorporation. I managed the accounts, built the website, negotiated new contracts, project managed several full property refurbisents and designed all the marketing strategies. I ran this company profitably for almost two years before changing career paths so that I could become a chartered town planner.

Mountaineering And Climbing Club

I was the youngest president in clubs 17 year history, leading a committee of 8, and responsible for 130 members. My presidency resulted in the highest ever membership levels, of both new joiners and retained members. The club had its most financially successful year under my leadership enabling additional trips away for those less privileged to be subsidised.
