My internship at ORNL was focused on reliability engineering and preventative maintenance in the Spallation Neutron Source, specifically in the Targeting Blocks. My work centered around converting paper piping and instrumentation diagrams into usable data on Exel spreadsheets, one for each of the cooling loops I worked with. This information was to be added later into the Enterprise Asset Manager (EAM) to keep track of parts. It had been originally used to only track parts over 10,000, so my job was to locate and localize the parts that were not included on that list so they could be added. I mainly looked for the manufacturer, the model number, and the serial number. When I left, this information was being implemented into the system, with the hope that the other parts of the SNS and groups at ORNL would follow our application of data through EAM.
