HAF's mission is to improve health outcomes for Latinos in New York City who are affected by HIV and other chronic illnesses. Responsibilities- Partake in health-education workshops on HIV/AIDS facilitated by the youth counselors.- Conduct neighborhood outreaches to educate local communities on HIV/AIDS and STDs.Accomplishments - Converted poetic talent into a medium that enhanced HAF’s reputation and expectations.- Performed a self-written song about the realities of HIV at various High Schools.- Recruited three young men for HAF’s Summer 2003 LGBTQ youth program. - Portrayed a variety of personalities within the High School skit scenario presentations.Senior Peer Youth Adviser 7/2003 - 12/2003 Responsibilities- Facilitate lessons on HIV/AIDS STDs to the new group of peer youth advisers.- Monitor the progress of the peer youth advisers, and work with them on creative projects.Accomplishments- Composed and performed a new song about the realities of drug abuse at High Schools, and at Hostos Community College’s AIDS Awareness Day 2003. The performance was published on the El Diario newspaper days later.- Performed at a publicity event at a High School in which Ms. Universe 2003 was present. - Facilitated a focus group for four teenage girls who were at risk of drug abuse, and promiscuity. The four teenage girls were not only educated further in these matters, but were also inspired to make better choices for themselves from then on. - Introduced and demonstrated HAF’s overall culture and focus group etiquette the new fall 2003 youth counselor.
