About Daniel Gordon
My name is Daniel Gordon and I recently graduated with my doctorate in biochemistry at the University of South Carolina. I had been working on developing a cancer diagnostic tool by way of detecting aberrant glycoproteins, secreted from tumor cells, circulating in the blood. My journey through graduate school, along with my years of experience in the microbiology laboratories of the pharmaceutical industry, have given me a wide skill set of analytical and biochemical techniques that are necessary in the quickly advancing and competitive field of biotechnology. I believe that all these experiences combined have provided me with the means to be a great asset to any company or research endeavor that has the same passion for science as I do.

To do this, I analyzed healthy and cancerous breast tissues with the Synthetic Lectin Array, using a bead-based flow cytometry platform with with fluorescent emission detection. I also investigated the N-linked glycans, in breast cancer, interacting with each of the Synthetic Lectins in the array by hydrophilic liquid chromatography and ion trap electrospray mass spectrometry.

Isolated polymorphonuclear leukocytes from human blood in order to gain more insight into NETosis as an immune response to Pseudomonas Aeruginosa.Routinely performed quantitative DNA and Protein assays on the samples collected from PMN cultures infected with different bacteria strains of PA. Ran agarose gels and western blots to better characterize the proteins and DNA excreted as NETs (Neutrophil Extracellular Traps). Developed a procedure to isolate and quantify Outer Membrane Vesicles from Pseudomonas Aeruginosa strains, in order to examine the their effective use as a defense mechanism for PA against NETs.
