Ich bin derzeit als Arbeitsgruppenleiter tätig am Helmholtz-Zentrum für Umweltforschung (UFZ). Meine Forschung konzentriert sich auf Süßwasserökosysteme und speziell auf die Wechselwirkungen von menschlichen Makronährstoffquellen (zum Beispiel Eintrag von Stickstoff, Phosphor, und organischer Kohlenstoff aus der Landwirtschaft), Reaktivität und Recycling. Mein Ansatz umfasst die Entwicklung neuer konzeptioneller Rahmenwerke , in denen ich ökologische und biogeochemische Ansätze verbinde, um unsere Nutzung der Landschaften mit der Wahrung der Natur und insbesondere gesunder Binnengewässerökosysteme in Einklang zu bringen. Ich nutze datenwissenschaftliche Ansätze inklusive univariater und multivariater statistischer Modelle für sehr große Umweltdatensätze aus nationalen und internationalen Datenbanken in R, Julia und Matlab und arbeite mit machine learning in R. Diese Arbeit kombiniere ich mit Labor- und Freilandexperimenten.Ich kooperiere international mit Fachkollegen und publiziere die Arbeiten in meinem Bereich auf international hochstehendem Niveau. Ich engagiere mich intensiv in der Betreuung und Ausbildung, entwickle innovative Lehrmethoden und Kurse, und führe Mitarbeiter und Kollegen vertikal und lateral auf verschiedenen Ebenen am UFZ und in der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft.
