I was initially appointed as Teacher of Business Studies was exhilarating. I was presented with a whole new challenge of CTEC Applied Business, along-side A Level Business. My skills, knowledge and love of business meant that I approached the challenge with enthusiasm, energy and flair. Having been inspired by the methods of High-Performance Learning, I saw the importance of improving my student’s metacognition skills; building clearer ‘assess’ ‘evaluate’ and ‘planning’ tasks into my lesson sequences to help build a more sophisticated and accurate responses. I jointly lead on a teaching and learning project alongside the Head of Department to create a standardised homework program of study for students, which embedded core learning and encouraged exploration beyond the confines of the classroom. Detailed lesson planning, positive relationships with students and the constant drive of high expectations resulted in an ALPS value-added score of 2.

I was delighted to be appointed as teacher of media studies at Sir John Deane’s as a one-year maternity cover. I was the sole subject specialist for media. I taught Year 12 and Year 13 and as such I had full responsibility for A level outcomes, UCAS applications and coursework marking for my students. I am resilient, hard working and a keen problem solver. I have demonstrated these qualities each day as I have balanced being a new teacher with the challenges of being a Year 13 teacher.
