At U-M’s Survey Research Operations at the Institute for Social Research. My role is to propose and implement solutions to survey design and data analysis challenges. I work with large census datasets and integrate proprietary data to correct for biases due to low responses rates. For many of the surveys I’ve worked on over the past 3 years, I have been involved in overcoming key statistical challenges – such as difficult sample frames, mitigating low response rates, and representing rare populations. I have also recently taken the initiative to propose some principled data processing practices and to develop some data management tools to improve our internal work environment.

Daniel Guzmán is a statistical consultant for HRDAG. Since 2006 he has focused on statistical analysis and the process of documenting political violence in conflict and post-conflict scenarios, mainly in Latin America. He worked as a quantitative analyst and advisor to Colombian and Guatemalan organizations about how to analyze human rights violations while addressing the potential statistical biases in the information. In October 2012, he provided expert statistical testimony in the successful trial against two former guatemalan police officers for the forced disappearance of a Guatemalan student leader. Currently, Daniel is pursuing a Masters degree in Survey Methodology with emphasis in statistics at University of Michigan.
