Software Architect And Technical Lead

Sedaru

Lead and Created the 2nd Generation OMNI project. We built it using Angular 7+, GraphQL, Nest.js and AWS Neptune Graph Database. I architected the project from scratch based on microservice designs and a mock-up. I brought true Agile practices to, not only the project but the entire company as well. I turned developers into Full-Stack Software Engineers who are no longer afraid to go from the back-end Graph DB, through the Nest.js API server all the way to the Angular client.I brought docker to the company. We had docker containers for our local development and utilized AWS ECS for our testing and staging environments. Our team automated the build and release process. Implemented continuous integration using Azure DevOps pipelines. This allowed us to release to our test server and staging server every two weeks for our end-of-sprint demos. I also interviewed and brought on two of Sedaru's most successful engineers using a new interview technique of watching them code a calculator.

Software Engineer Iii (Contractor)

San Diego, Ca, Us

I've been working on Illumina's Genetic Sequencer software. I've been maintaining and adding new features to their Local Run Manager (LRM). This web application allows biologists and geneticists to interface with the genetic sequencing machines. It assists in managing different kinds of genetic sequencing runs for different biotech, medical and research companies. The LRM front-end is written in AngularJS and its' back-end is C#, Visual Studios 2015 and Postgres DB. I'm working as a Full-Stack Software Engineer, but the majority of my work is in AngularJS on the front-end. I've been working ~50/50 on MiSeq and NextSeq instruments as LRM is a cross instrument technology. I've also been helping to improve the LRM by moving it to a component based architecture. This will help increase readability, reliability, and maintainability while reducing costs.I've had the opportunity of learning some new technologies while working here at Illumina. Docker (https://www.docker.com/) is a tool for "Containerizing" your applications. It allows you to wrap your software projects with their respective dependencies into nice little packages. This is ideal for sharing code and deployment to a web server. I've also been learning TypeScript (https://www.typescriptlang.org/). It's a powerful superset of JavaScript. It has all the features you wish JavaScript had. Like classes, optional types and much more. Last, but not least I've been learning about Angular 2 (https://angular.io/) and Angular Material (https://material.angular.io/). These can be used for rapid web application development.I'm also learning a ton about genetics and how the sequencers work. Illumina is truly on the cutting edge and is pushing human knowledge forward. Working here gets me excited about the future of Humanity.

Full-Stack Software Engineer

Three Screens Studio

While at 3 Screens, I have worked on numerous projects. I had the opportunity to work on a Genetic Review Application at Millennium Health using Zend PHP and AngularJS. I added features to a Satellite GUI for Viasat using AngularJS. Finally, I created the full stack for a home security retail website using Laravel PHP and VueJS.The Millennium Health Genetic Review was amazing. It took raw data from machines that use light to analyze DNA samples with different genetic markers. It did calculations on the raw data to form tables, bar charts and plot graphs that biologists could understand. The biologists would in turn use the data to determine phenotypes or genetic variations that affect physical attributes. These phenotypes would be used by doctors to prescribe certain drugs to patients. I am happy that I got to work on such a powerful tool. While at ViaSat I was on a team that was working hard to create a brand new web application that allowed interfacing with satellites. They had a large back-end team that used C# and Microsoft technologies to do all the satellite M2M communication. I was able to work on the front end of the web application that was written in AngularJS. I learned and used D3JS to create a new specialized bar chart based off their requirments. It was animated and updated dynamically based off user input. It was a blast working with all the great and highly experienced engineers at ViaSat.I was able to work on a home security web application as well. It was a full-stack project where I created a database architecture using PHP and the Laravel framework. I then tied the database into the front-end using VueJS. Learning VueJS was a lot of fun and I've really come to fall in love with the component based framework. Of course Laravel is always a breeze with its' Eloquent ORM, advanced routing and dependency injection architecture. It was nice to be able to work on the full stack again.I learned a lot at 3 Screens.

Full-Stack Software Engineer (Contractor)

Dallas, Tx, Us

I created a couple of web applications with PHP Laravel, AngularJS, and TwitterBootStrap that intercepts server alerts, catalogs them and then passes that information to a work flow engine. I worked with the project owner, Robert Hulten, as the primary developer. We completed the Alarm Catalog with Laravel 4.2 and the networking API application with Laravel 5.1. I also set up Jira Agile for both projects and followed an Agile work flow with 2 week iterations at first. We then decided to move to 1 week iterations since our team was small and we had a lot of changes that came up quickly. We used an exponential story point system. The utilization of Jira Agile lead to a very transparent and efficient software development cycle.I learned and started utilizing Test Driven Development on the second project at AT&T. TDD is a slightly different way of coding and took some getting used to. Although, the unit tests it provides proved invaluable in the later stages of production. I'm thoroughly convinced that TDD is the way programming should be done. At the very least every feature should have a set of unit tests accompanying them.

Software Engineer / Web Gui Architect (Contractor)

I created a web application from scratch for OWL that was dynamic and mobile ready. It was able to handle new products as well as adding new features that will make selling Antibodies and other products easier and more fun.Twitter Bootstrap was used for the CSS, AngularJS for the JavaScript and PHP Laravel for the server side framework. These technologies work together to pull data from a MySQL data base and push it to the end-user in a easy, dynamic and useful way.

Firmware/Software Engineer

San Diego, California, Us

Initially I was rotated between teams as part of a rotation program at NVTL. I started on the Quality Assurance team where I tested multiple devices for defects. I worked with other Software Engineers to debug difficult issues. I was then moved to the Tools team where I worked on creating a bash script that automated the flashing of NVTL devices. Finally I ended up on the Web User Interface team where I helped create APIs and web pages that users could use to interact with our devices. The Web User Interface sits in the flash of the MiFi device and communicates with the hardware using API's provided by the Platform teams. It has the largest range of used languages. The Platform API is written in C, which is called from a C++ interface. The C++ interface feeds variables to the HTML and JavaScript. Since our UI is the gateway to the platform most issues come to us first and we must start the investigation process before passing it on to other teams. Our web user interface has to be dynamic in order to handle change requests from our customers at the last minute yet robust enough to handle non-technical end users. These conditions lead to a challenging and rewarding experience. The MiFi Liberate was the first product to showcase the new Novatel Wireless MiFi Operating System. An embedded operating system that allows users to interact with the device via Web UI and Device UI.

Build Engineer

Santa Clara, California, Us

Helped maintain 60+ build servers for multiple development teams. Worked with PowerShell, XML and C# to add new features to an already large and complex building system. PowerShell was something new that I brought into the picture to help automate updating all 60 servers. Using this rather new Microsoft scripting language I was able to turn a 3 - 4 day task of adding a new program to the servers into a 10 second task. With completion of the project I fell in love with scripting.
