●Responsible for the care and enrichment of animals within the Children’s Zoo section ofFranklin Park Zoo by giving fresh food and water, cleaning both public exhibits and back holdings,transferring animals from back holdings to public view, and administering medicinal pills/tablets daily● Animals cared for included red pandas, prairie dogs, goats, pigs, chickens, mini horses, ponies,donkeys, ducks, cranes, and turtles● Prepared diets for animals by cutting meat, vegetables and fish into appropriate sizes,measuring grain, and adding supplemental minerals and vitamins● Employed animal safety procedures including opening doors one at a time, restraining animalswith appropriate hands-on methods, and observing animal behavior before handling● Interacted with zoo guests by answering questions while caring for animals, displaying animalsthrough daily public encounters, and monitoring guests and animals within the petting zoo● Conducted behavioral observation research on red pandas using personally made ethogramto determine behaviors exhibited by, and exhibit location of, red pandas during summerdays hotter than 80℉ ○ Behavioral and location data was recorded on ZooMonitor application, used to determine how long, where, and what type of behavior was occurring during a 20 minute period with 1 minute intervals ○ Initial results utilized by zoo staff to appeal for more methods of cooling red pandas, such as shade shelters● Participated in weekly zookeeping related classes to gain experience in animal training,zoo medicine, animal restraint, and zoo history
