For over 20 years, my students won hundreds of state and national awards in all aspects of journalism, building a reputation as one of the nation's premiere student publications.From 2001-2011 I was also the English Department Chair at Timberline High School, and oversaw a department of 10-12 other teachers. Responsibilities included managing a department budget; conducting department meetings and crafting department policy; interviewing and assisting in the hiring of new staff; scheduling; and other administrative duties. In recent years, I have provided consultation and led workshops on "Sweet Spot Writing Instruction," a method of writing instruction which fosters maximum improvement in student writing, while simultaneously helping teachers to spend less time grading and more time living whole, happy, and healthy lives. As a consultant, I would travel to various high schools and work with publication teachers and staff to improve the design of the school newspaper and/or yearbook.
