In May 2021 I retired from Northwest Veterinary Group! I was a predominately equine veterinarian who moved into a full-time management role in August 2018. I had been employed at Northwest Veterinary Clinic since graduating from the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. My final position was as the Chairman of the Board of our 16 doctor mixed animal practices with its three locations in the Pacific Northwest - Stanwood, Arlington, and Mount Vernon - serving Snohomish, Skagit, Island, and Whatcom counties. What drew me to Stanwood and Northwest Veterinary Clinic was the recognition and appreciation of the balance between family life and work and how those can be mutually supportive. Having raised 4 children with my wife and high school sweetheart, Linda, we are now empty nesters. But life is far from dull with grandchildren living next door, volunteer activities, and home and farm projects. I will always remember with fondness and gratitude my years as a founding member and officer of MAVANA - Mixed Animal Veterinary Associates, North America. This group of 31 practices plus a consulting arm was spread across 15 states and were linked by a common desire to raise the level of practice management while providing the best in veterinary care. Combining best medical practices with best business practices, we sought to unlock the hidden or at least untapped value in our mixed animal practices by merging together in January 2017. MAVANA was a company of veterinarians, for veterinarians, owned by veterinarians.
