Aquatic ecologist for the Gulf Coast Network (GULN) of the Inventory and Monitoring Division (IMD) within the National Park Service (NPS). Performed water quality monitoring for 7 national parks spread across multiple states in the south-southeast US. Sampling included discrete and continuous measurements of physical characteristics, water quality samples for laboratory analyses, data entry, QA/QC, and report writing.Maintained agreements with park staff, university staff, and other federal and state/local agencies. Water quality laboratory manager in the Department of Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. Managed a research laboratory for multiple faculty members. Ordered, and setup all equipment for a newly established laboratory. Collected, analyzed and interpreted results of water quality samples using flow injection analyses (Lachat QuikChem 8500 FIA). Developed sample costs and internal/external billings. Managed laboratory budgets for purchases of reagent and field equipment for faculty and graduate students. Performed all relevant QA/QC work of laboratory analyses.Assisted with development of projects, data analysis, field work and laboratory analyses for graduate student research.Worked with state and local government, and landowners for water quality sampling.Performed ground maintenance for field sites (agricultural areas requiring mowing/trimming/etc.). Installed permanent and temporary sampling site fixtures including sampling wells, autosamplers (ISCO autosamplers), and modified housing units for autosamplers to allow for year round sampling.

Worked on multiple projects with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) in the Surface Water Monitoring Section. Work was spread across stream sampling and lake sampling as a summer intern with the IEPA. Work included routine water quality sampling at multiple streams and lakes over the duration of the summer. Stream sampling included fish surveys (shocking, and netting) with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Macroinvertebrate sampling, sediment sampling, and water quality samples were collected with the IEPA. Sorting and identification of macroinvertebrates and fish (field identification for fish), and proper sample handling based on IEPA and water quality laboratory requirements was performed within this role. Data was entered into an Access database for long-term storage.Water samples, and algal samples were collected during lake sampling (shoreline, and boat sampling). Experience operating motorboats, and hauling of said boats with trailers from boat storage to sampling sites around central Illinois. Water samples were handled and preserved as required by the analyzing laboratory, and proper QC was always followed as above with the stream water samples.
