Why am I a surveyor...?Basically, I made a mistake, I bought my first home, and was quoted for a survey and thought at the time that the surveyor when visiting for the mortgage valuation would advise me of any issue (and I could save money by not having one). I never received any report. I was a first time buyer and was just excited, and bought the house, thinking I could handle anything.. the list of defects continued, the repairs got more complicated, the costs increased, and so in a nutshell I got a number of bad surprises, in the end costing multiples of the cost of the survey in the first place. Since then I just want to help others not have the same surprises.. So now I am approaching 20 years in the residential property industry, I originally started my property career in Hull, in estate agency. Gaining a strong foundation in the process of marketing and selling property as well as individual characteristics surrounding property, and the legal process I progressed through the company structure as well as starting my education as a building surveyor through the College of Estate Management. After changing roles as the industry adapted, I had gained experience in sales progression, complaints investigation, management, human resources, market appraisals, lettings appraisals, property management, housing repair, and more. Moving to Harrogate in early 2017 solely made my focus valuation and building surveying work, the majority of the time covering Leeds and the North Yorkshire region (although still returning to Hull on occasion). Since then I have been building relationships with local profesionals, and helping clients with their property advice needs.Currently I specialise in the residential property industry, with a strong focus on building surveying and valuation. This includes valuations for secured lending purposes, (e.g. purchase or remortgage), Inheritance Tax, Matrimonial, Charities Act, Single Joint Expert. Surveys such as pre purchase surveys such as RICS HomeBuyer Reports, other work carried out is Party Wall advice and forming of award, lease extension valuations, single defect inspections, boundary disputes, forming plans of property and land suitable for Land Registry purposes.
