I’m very interested in forest conservation, natural resource management and degraded ecosystem restoration. During my senior year I chose to write a thesis on Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically I focussed on the common challenges associated with these programs and how to redesign them to be more effective.In the Fall of 2021 I took a class on Restoration Ecology, where I was able to conduct research in a degraded creek-bed. For the final project of this class, I wrote a restoration management plan for the land managers, where I made recommendations for increasing the biodiversity of benthic macro-invertebrates in the creek sediments. I also made several figures using the data I collected in the field and R programming software, to show the distribution of benthic macro-invertebrate species in different sediment profiles. I have also had the opportunity to work on the development of natural resource management programs based in several different countries, as an intern for Terra Global Capital (TGC). TGC is a Bay-Area based company that develops sustainable forest and agriculture programs, and conducts greenhouse gas quantification from a variety of land-use practices around the world.

  As an intern for Terra Global, my responsibilities were to write informational pages about each of the current projects, including sections on general information about the project, community benefits, biodiversity benefits and climate benefits. I then updated the company website to include these informational pages, using the Drupal website editing tool, allowing clients and investors to stay up-to-date on the company’s progress.Another one of my responsibilities was to manage and clean data from hand-held solar devices in East Africa, using Excel. Many of these solar devices were being turned off due to missing payment information, so I was tasked with locating this information and sending it back to the solar company, who then fixed these anomalies.I also assisted on the project development side by conducting research on biodiversity in specific areas where projects were located, and by drafting the biodiversity sections of the project documents. I also assisted in project development by helping team members put the finishing touches on feasibility studies, monitoring reports and other project documents.Lastly, I made social media posts for the company to inform the public on the latest findings from the IPCC sixth synthesis report.
