Lab Manager
As a Lab Manager, my primary responsibilities were two-fold: first, to oversee the lab’s day-to-day operations, and second, to work with customers. As part of overseeing the lab, I directed and provided support for a small team of test technicians. I was also responsible for maintaining and reordering equipment and supplies required for testing (tools, consumables). Additionally, I organized daily tasks to maintain lab workflow. When working with customers, I generated work orders based on customer requirements, processed test reports from acquired data, and provided customers with technical expertise. I also oversaw the continuation of 5S and Lean methodologies within the lab, as well as an accredited ISO9001 quality system.
Lab Tech
As a Lab Technician my primary responsibility was machining test samples for and performing various quasi-static load and environmental testing on composite materials. To accomplish this, I utilized a variety of measurement devices including micrometers, load cells, strain gauges, LVDT's, thermocouples, accelerometers, environmental chambers. I also utilized machine tools to prepare samples for testing. I was also required to fabricate test panels, using hand lay-up or vacuum infusion methods. I worked to improve the lab in terms of quality and efficiency. Occasionally, we would also get larger testing projects, requiring the development of customized DAQ systems using remote FPGA devices to measure multiple input devices.
