I am a member of the computer programming and development team in the Midwestern Regional Climate Center (MRCC), which is part of the Regional Climate Center system of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). MRCC is tasked with providing value-added, customized climate data and information for a variety of audiences in the Midwest, mainly via the Web. I am also involved with the co-located Indiana State Climate Office, which provides similar climate data and information for Indiana, and Purdue Mesonet. I collaborate with other programmers/developers as well as computer scientists, software engineers, and scientific and service staff toward providing day-to-day operational and custom climate products and services and fulfilling the obligations of long-term funded contracts and grants. Specifically, my role involves development of robust, extensible object-oriented code in Python and MySQL and online visualization tools in Tableau and other media; maintenance and debugging of legacy codes written in FORTRAN, Perl, HTML, Javascript, and other languages; analysis of weather and climate data-sets; and support of center's data servers and its Web site that is housed in a cloud-like, composable containerized system.
