U.S. Coastguard active duty from 2003 – 2009, Active Reserve from 2009 – 20102003-2006 assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (Seattle WA.). Developed seamanship and leadership skills. Promoted to Petty Officer 3rd class (E-4). Key roles: Master Helmsman, Weapons Petty Officer, Junior Officer of the Deck, Boatswains Mate of the Watch, Shipboard Firefighting. Three six month deployments to Antarctica.2006-2009 Assigned to Maritime Safety and Security Team Seattle – Promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5). Further developed leadership and communication skills, learned: Law Enforcement, Counter Terrorism Tactics, Advanced Weapons and Close Quarter Combat, Team Deployment and Leadership, Emergency Organizational Deployment, Communications Strategies, and Search and Rescue Operations. Key Roles: Boarding Team Member, Crewman, Coxswain, Training Petty Officer. Frequent deployments to the regional North West. 2009-2011 assigned to Coast Guard Station Seattle. Lead training of new members in Law Enforcement and Seamanship Skills. Key Roles: Lead Coxswain, Training Petty Officer. Deployment to the Gulf Oil Spill summer of 2010 – Trained incoming personnel on the use and employment of U.S.C.G. oil skimmers, Coast Guard liaison to civilian boat crews assessing permeation of sub surface oil.
