• A development role working within the central technical function to provide technical support for product and process improvement projects at British Steel production sites. Central to the post is the ability to.
• Providing technical support to British Steel production sites.
• Establish relationships with mill technical teams to assist in key development projects.
• Liaise with and utilise other technical expert resource as required to achieve project goals.
• Operate as part of a wider project improvement team.
• Gather relevant data, plan and report on technical projects at British Steel production sites, producing recommendations to the mill operational and technical teams.

• The purpose of this role is to provide a technical service to the mills around the plant. Working independently and a part of a team using experience and knowledge to prioritise my own work. The post involves using.
• Release testing of sections, rods and rail.
• Preparation of impact test samples using band saws, linishers, Parkson milling machines and CNC grinders.
• Preparation of Tensile test samples using a range of equipment such as band saws, milling machines, linishers, and CNC vertical millers.
• Preparation of Rail test samples using equipment such as, band saws, CNC milling machines, CNC vertical millers and linishers.
• Testing of tensile, impact and hardness test samples using a range of testing equipment.

• PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIESTo assist the Area Technical Manager (ATM) in the following activities:
• Achieving shift quality, production and efficiency targets/objectives for the Caster 5, continuous casting plant.
• To provide high levels of customer service in line with agreed service level agreements.
• To provide communications to shift teams in order to highlight any technical improvements and/or quality issues which affected performance.
• To stand in for the Area Technical Manager on a Tuesday, Wednesday and time when the ATM was on holidays
• To track progress on the Concast Plant Cost of Liquid Steel project £500K Challenge

• Release testing of sections, rods and rail.

• The role is required to carry out release testing of a variety of products such as rod. This is carried out by using several techniques such as microscopy, hardness, surface assessment and heat treatment. PRINCIPAL.
• Release of rail for decarburisation
• Core hardness testing of rods using heat treatment and the Rockwell Hardness method.
• Surface assessment of rod samples using optical microscopy
• To deliver the work to agreed timescales, to maintain a record of results and to report findings via the appropriate methods / channels.
• Preparation of samples using CNC micro polishing equipment.

• Part of an engineering metallurgy team carrying out failure investigations along with none destructive testing such as Die penetrant, Magnetic partical inspection, visual inspection and ultrasonic testing.PRINCIPAL.
• Undertake plant inspections, material quality checks and failure investigations.
• To undertake a variety of non-destructive tests encompassing a range of standard techniques such as MPI, DPI, and ultrasonic testing.
• To support the routine preparation and/or testing of test pieces in the workshop.
• To deliver the work to agreed timescales, to maintain a record of results and to report findings via the appropriate methods / channels.
• To undertake work such that the requirements of the appropriate internal, national and/or international standards are met.
