My research experience has been mainly focused on organic syntheses of complex bioactive molecules. Starting with formation of alcohols from olefins using mercury catalysts to facilitate the regioselectivity of hydroxyl groups with hindered molecules. This research led me to investigating Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectroscopy compound dissociation due to high particle acceleration and variations of kinetic energy in different materials. I was also part of the team that completed the convergent total synthesis of anticancer molecule yaku’amide A and its analogues. My research then shifted to focus on the synthesis and study of proteolytic stability of 3-10 helical peptides containing alkyl and cyclic dehydroamino acids. My current research involves the development of novel olefin difunctionalization methods by evaluating the native reactivity of N-acyl-N-halo-O-sulfonyl as well as N-acyl-N-halo-O-alkyl/silyl hydroxylamines with olefins to obtain structurally diverse and multifunctional hydroxylamine derivatives that can be used as versatile building blocks for the formation of more complex molecules.
