Prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic I served as the Farm and Facilities Director at Connolly Ranch Education Center in Napa, California. Connolly Ranch is a 501(c)3 non-profit outdoor education center that specializes in helping children and families connect to nature through farm-based education. At Connolly Ranch, I was responsible for the daily management of facilities, grounds, gardens and numerous livestock species on an urban educational farm. I conducted routine health and safety inspections, supervised major facilities improvements, ensured compliance with American Camp Association standards, managed the annual facilities expense budget, and maintained in good working order farm equipment and tools. I also taught classes, lead volunteer services groups, farm tours and field trips. I built partnerships by supporting and collaborating with my fellow leadership team to develop community partners, host community events, and implementing outreach and community education. I ensured the ability of the Ranch to host large events in regard to safety, security, utility needs, and programatic needs. I ensured that the Ranch was properly insured, operating within all applicable laws and abiding by its lease with the Land Trust of Napa Valley.

As the Farm Facility and Operation Manager at Summerfield Farms I managed the preventive maintenance and operational processes that support the efforts of five business ventures to meet the maintenance, marketing and customer service needs of the property in accordance with farm polices and standards. I ensure the upkeep of the farm’s exterior and facilities in order to enhance and maintain its appearance to visitors and guests. I oversee and streamlines the operations and logistics of event execution. I coordinate deliveries of produce and beef to restaurants and wholesale distributors. I tends a herd of 43 head of 100 percent grass-fed cattle. I conduct educational farm tours for various demographics of visitors and guests . I set daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicates them to farm, event and garden teams. I organize workflow by assigning responsibilities, preparing schedules and outlining duties. I monitors the work of employees, provides feedback and performs coaching or counseling. I warrant the safe use of equipment and schedules regular maintenance. I prepares and submits report on individual and overall performance. I create and implement detailed maintenance and quality assurance programs. I revises procedures, identify issues in efficiency and suggests ways of improvement. I train new employees on how to safely use machinery and accurately follow procedures. I enforces strict safety guidelines and company standards.

At Homegrown Agriculture I assisted in the management of herds and flocks of pasture-raised antibiotic and hormone free cattle, hogs and chickens. I helped expand the organization's presence and sales at local markets and restaurants. I conducted public relations interviews and tours with regional stakeholder groups promoting local agriculture. I increased the cultivation and production of fruits and vegetables on conventional row crop acreage. I also assisted in consultative agronomic sampling and row crop cultivation of sage, soybeans, cotton, corn and peanuts.

As a graduate assistant for the Center for Sustainability I served as a Project Coordinator for an EPA-funded study titled Lean and Green NC Breweries and Wineries. I also served as a NC Green Travel Advisory Board Member and Author of weekly sustainability tips for NCNewsLinks. I helped facility serves with formulating a draft of East Carolina University’s first Sustainability Report. I also conducted a literature reviews for NC Sea Grant-funded research on tourism themed trails development, for the Outer Banks Scenic Byway. I participated in stakeholder planning meetings for research. I researched environmental and economic indicators for potential application in the study. I conducted a literature review for a study entitled Pitt County qualitative farmer study on local foods. I also assisted with triangulation coding in this study. I conducted interviews for Dare County Parks and Recreation Department on perceived need for park facilities. Additionally I conducted, recorded, and analyzed interviews with Outer Banks residents on their perceptions of climate change. These interviews were conducted interviews through snowball sampling technique.

As a farmer with Underground Farm I created and established a four-acre sustainable farm and associated infrastructure from fallow ground. I coordinated the design and construction of on-farm facilities. I marketed products and services to surrounding communities.I participated in local food advocacy programs including Carolina Farm Stewardship Association and Carteret Local Food Network. I managed the harvest and delivery of produce to a 32 member CSA, local restaurants, and grocery stores. I handled client relations and problem resolution.I also supervised supplemental labor.

As a Safety Manager with All Safe I managed safety compliance for an industrial service contractor who operated primarily at the PCS Phosphate Mine in Aurora, North Carolina. I managed MSHA and OSHA safety training and record keeping. I conducted site safety audits for various trades in various industrial facilities and settings. I coordinated with site management and staff. I lead weekly tool box topic safety meetings. I conducted root cause analysis and accident investigations.

With All Carolina Crane, I managed safety for three heavy equipment rental branches in Raleigh, and Wilmington North Carolina as well as Charleston South Carolina. I implemented new the OSHA Crane Standard across these three branches. I also completed and submitted prequalification documents. I conducted and participated in company safety training and managed compliance for MSHA/FMCA/OSHA/EPA regulations and standards. I also conducted accident investigations and onsite safety audits.

With Holder Construction I managed safety compliance for the construction of 17 story Marriott Hotel and 4 floor underground parking deck with over 500 workers in downtown Raleigh, NC. I managed two separate projects with different insurance plans and clients. I conducted site specific safety orientation training and accident investigations. There were no fatalities or lost time injuries of this job.
