Profile bio

About Daniel Guolo

I started studying programing when I was only 13 (I'm 34 now). Within these years I studied many languages starting with PHP, JavaScript, Java, Python, Ruby and many others. Now I'm also always trying something new, doing some experiments and studying new things.I also had the opportunity to lead a small team in a company that my friend and I had opened. Which we had this small team to develop products and services in many different areas. I learned a lot back then, not only technically but also how to lead. Since then I've done some courses about leading.I started to study React and React Native in 2016 and so far those are my main technologies that I work with. In my spare time I like to train CrossFit and hangout with friends.

Sr Frontend Developer

Current

Internal project for an international company on clothing. Working on the architecture, requirements and overall software development from scratch, delivering quality solutions to our customers. As a Fullstack developer most focused on FE, I first helped on the main application. It was developed on React. I made a lot of contributions regarding the architecture and cleaning the code. Since it was a project developed by many hands, it was getting very repetitive with a lot of duplicated code.I brought to the team new approaches for the structure and how to use DRY. Also suggested to use NextJs or another framework to get faster builds. Refactor an important library using Typescript and the bundler Vite. For the backend, which is on Java. I developed some services for the new system. What I learned here is how to work with a Giant team. Almost 20 developersworking on the same project and more than 100 devs by the side watching.

Mar 2022 - Present

Sr Software Developer

https://book.galsalao.com/I was responsible for different systems (1 mobile app, 2 web apps). I even tackled a little bit on the backend. Helped to structure many features and migrate most of them to Typescript. The mobile app was my idea. They wanted to develop in the next year, but I realized that they wanted to recreate the scheduling system on the web. They accepted my suggestion on building a PWA + mobile app. I started developing by myself on the beginning and then other developers started tojoined me. I was still the main developer on the project where I kept reviewing and coding. It was developed on React Native on top of Expo. This is still running. We had a major legacy application that was developed a couple of years ago and the team was having much trouble maintaining and setting up new features. So I decided to suggest a microfrontend approach to the new features and keep the legacy React App (CRA) and the new code (NextJs) indifferent repositories. In my journey here I also mentored a Jr developer, which was a big learning for me. He was in the very beginning of the career and liked to pair with me.For some projects we thought of choosing graphql, but I saw that actually was going to introduce more complexity then solve the problems, so we decided not to used it. What I learned from this job was how to deal with a giant legacy application and deal with a bigger team than I was used to.

Freelancer

Developer

Going back to work as a freelancer was good for me. Working from home at this point was really what I needed.Although I had already seen React and React Native I haven't spent too much time on it earlier, so I decided to really dedicate time to learn and work with it. Since I already had a lot of experience with javascript and nodejs wasn't hard to catch up.In this period I worked developing systems and websites, most of them to back office. I dedicated a lot of time to study and master things I was not confident about. Working from home is also hard when you are not used to it. So it was in this period I really set time to work and follow a routine to achieve my goals and not procrastinate.

Jul 2016 - Feb 2021

Lead Developer

Since I was the only developer on this it was one of the most challenging projects in terms of development. It was ambitious, on its starting point yet. My partner helped me on the comercial and ideas on the layout.Despite working on it since 2018, we only released it in March 2020, because of the pandemic. We were still working on trial mode, but the system was working very well.We had a backend running on nodejs with express, a frontend web app on React and a mobile app on React Native. For the backend application I decided for graphql with Apollo Server so I could choose the right fields at the right moments. At the end I was coding a new backend on top of NestJs but ended up not going to production. The web app was built on top of CRA, for the graphql I used the Apollo Client. It was a back office and for speed purposes we uses Material UI to develop it. The mobile app was built on top of Expo, since it was a simple application, we didn't need any fancy access so we were using the Bare workflow. For the design part we wanted it to be great, so we developed each component from the beginning, not using any UI library.I chose AWS to serve our infrastructure, and GCloud for the storage. I was just starting on DevOps, so I opted for the easiest API for each service. Today I'd probably go another way. For the data we used MySQL and MongoDB. It was a mistake made on the beginning, we should go to one way or another, not both. It ended up causing some slow developments. We also used Redis to cache the queries. It was really great working on this project, because I was a lone developer with a friend. We were trying to learn a lot from the business and apply what we learned, not only from the technical view, but since the team was really small (4-6 people) we need to do a little bit of everything.

Partner, Designer / Developer

Iocus - Ideia Interativa

Sombrio, Santa Catarina, Brasil

My responsibilities were to help the team to design new brands, their pillars and work on their weaknesses to make them strong. Our goal were to create brands and take them to the world. Since I had a lot of baggage on development I was also responsible for developing their systems and websites. In this case I used a lot of PHP, javascript, wordpress, html, nodejs. I also learned here how to work with Git and heard for the first time "Typescript" but initially I didn't give much attention. This company was really important to me not only because of the hard skills, but helped me a lot to improve my soft skills. See the general needs of a company, not worry only with the product, but also with the customer.

Developed websites and systems within many areas. I improved my skills not only on coding, but also on communication and working with customers. Here I got the confidence to work with: html, javascript, css, PHP, Adobe Flash.I was very young so I was not worried at the time to build a portfolio, that's why I didn't even used Git yet. I was just trying to do nice things using code for that.
