As an MWD operator accessing the trajectory of the well hole as it is drilled with data updates that arrive and are processed every few seconds from measurement tools downhole. This information is then used to drill in a pre-planned direction into an underground formation which contains oil, gas, water or condensate. Natural gamma ray emissions measurements of the rock formation under-ground are taken to help determine what type of formation is being drilled. Gamma ray emission measurement also confirms real-time location of the well-bore in relation to the presence of different types of known formations underground and if the well-bore is being guided to the target line. Daily responsibilities include the prior mentioned along with interpreting drilling data, providing it to the client, managing MWD equipment, arranging MWD equipment for transport, and using wireline instruments and downhole MWD tools to take measurements without disturbing the well-bore. Additional responsibilities span maintaining records of drilling progress, evaluating the current drilling processes and recommending improvements, ensuring the most efficient drilling path is followed, and communicating verbally and electronically on a non-stop basis with drilling personnel/superintendents/engineers/geologists, and company men to ensure critical project success. Our team was awarded with directing the fastest curve and laterals drilled in the Permian Basin for Unit Drilling, Diamondback Energy, Precision Drilling, Felix Energy, and Helmerich & Payne.
