As head of Quality at our Lathrop plant, I built up and led a team of engineers for the Quality Assurance group for the processes of Aluminum Casting, CNC Machining, Extrusion Assembly, and Welding Sub Assembly. I directed quality engineering strategies in various continuous improvement areas. Driving a think-tank of technical experts in the discipline of quality and process we accomplished our goal of establishing a sustainable and poised high volume manufacturing culture for the future of Tesla.

Right from the start I led and directed the initial equipment procurement, validation, and startup, while simultaneously creating the quality management system. Responsible for the manpower planning and personnel hiring/training that drove the processes for the high pressure die casting operation. This included; materials testing, heat treatment, machining, and conversion coating operations. For the CNC Machining process, I set up the QA and QC system. While leading the start up for our internal ops, I also was the acting supplier quality engineer for Tesla's early castings. I supported, significantly, with various new part launch development work at various casting and heat treatment suppliers, both domestic and foreign companies, including a large California bay area local CNC Machining supplier, by coaching them into industry level quality assurance procedures and process controls for machining our newly in house die cast structural thin wall die castings.

One of several major operations at this facility was high-volume high-tolerance High Pressure Aluminum Die Casting of which I was the Quality and Production engineer and acting manager of everything casting and heat treatment. In this role I led all engineering of this department's operations outside of production planning. My responsibility also extended to the Ferrous Heat Treatment department for steel forgings by managing the industrial process electronic controls calibration program for its equipment.

This awesome opportunity started at Honda's premier/leading foundry facility, as the first engineer assigned to the Tool Design and Die Maintenance area of large-casting aluminum die casting dies. I achieved numerous awesome casting-die tooling efficiency and tooling life improvements along with a first in industry leading tooling component Inventory and quality/life tracking software. I lead the Access based database and SQL server application development of this software from a blank slate to production implementation. After several years in Tool Design and Die Maintenance I was promoted to Equipment Engineer for the large tonnage Die Casting Machines. For my assigned machines I was responsible of all process and equipment efficiency improvements of the casting process for my area. Additional responsibilities were the department's lead safety trainer and responsible for all over head lifting personnel and equipment . Also responsible for the environmental role of aluminum casting department by analyzing all utilities usages that which identified projects for equipment efficiency improvements.
