Daniel Kollmorgen, MD FACS has been practicing and teaching complex surgical oncology for 25 years. During that time, he has taught nearly 100 residents to operate on and care for a broad spectrum of patients with benign and malignant diseases of the breast, skin, liver, pancreas, GI tract, endocrine glands and connective tissue. He also served as Chair of Surgery, Cancer Center Director, Assistant Residency Program Director, physician clinic board member, examiner for the American Board of Surgery, and Quality Committee member for the Society of Surgical Oncology. He also served 6 years as an 'at large' member of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. He has been repeatedly recognized as Physician or Teacher of the Year by colleagues, surgery residents, and medical students. In 2008 he was selected to join a physician leadership program. This year-long experience gave him new perspectives on the obstacles and struggles that are unique to physicians and especially surgeons. Since then he served in a consulting role for the American Medical Group Association and CTI Leadership. His leadership development and insights have been featured in publications including 'Working in Sync' and 'Beyond Physician Engagement'. In January 2022 after several years of consideration, he stepped away from his busy and successful practice to explore new personal and professional directions. He provided acute care surgery in Montana for 18 months before starting his current position as Vice President of Medical Affairs and director of oncology services at a critical access hospital in Iowa. He continues to provide virtual consultation for surgical practices, medical legal claims, and complex oncology cases across the country. In all of these roles, he has focused on his overriding purpose: to improve the lives of patients AND surgeons around him by building relationships through quality, accountability, and integrity.
