Compliance Inspector for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting program. The NPDES permitting program is delegated to the FDEP by the Environmental Protection Agency under the authorization of the Clean Water Act. The NPDES program regulates the point source discharge of pollutants through discrete conveyances such as pipes or man-made ditches, into waters of the United States. The NPDES permitting program is designed to protect water quality standards applicable to Florida’s five designated surface water use classifications. I am responsible for ensuring compliance and if necessary initiating enforcement actions, for all NPDES permitted industrial facilities in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. These include: - Power Plants- Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations- Limestone Quarries/Cement Mills/Concrete Batch Plants- Fuel Terminals- Aquaculture Operations- Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plants- Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Operations- Materials Testing Facilities- Vehicle and Equipment Washing Facilities- Construction Dewatering Projects- Mass-Burn Waste to Energy Plants- Aerospace Manufacturing and Testing Operations I also respond to publically reported illicit discharge complaints coming from a wide range of activities. Illicit discharge detection and elimination is a key requirement for municipalities holding NPDES Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permits.
