I am a current radiology resident at the University of Ottawa. Previously, I defended my thesis in oncology and nuclear medicine with a focus on developing and evaluating novel radiotracers targeting specific elements of the tumour microenvironment for both diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy. These radiotracers will enable early diagnosis of cancers at a stage where treatment is both feasible and effective, inform clinicians key characteristics of a patient's disease, allow clinicians to monitor patients' response to therapy and directly treat metastatic cancers with targeted radiotherapy. The successful translation of these technologies represents a viable a route to diagnose, monitor and treat cancers that remain currently unaddressed by the standard of care. While doing clinical rotations, I am working with Dr. Christian Steidl in the Centre of Lymphoid Cancer using a bioinformatics approach to better characterize molecular alterations underlying hematological malignancies. An intimate understanding of how hematological malignancies proliferate will hopefully enable new targeted therapeutics for better patient outcomes. Finally, as a visiting researcher at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Radiology, I am analyzing PET images of a dual radiotracer study to assess the feasibility of future dual tracer studies for both clinical applications and to study the underlying biology of cancers. I am driven by the idea that findings in the physical and biomedical sciences can be effectively leveraged into healthcare solutions, making a difference in the lives of patients.
