As the Director of Payroll for a global enterprise, I am often the most invisible executive in the company. Payroll is the ultimate “back office” function. I know my team is performing at its best when our email inboxes are empty and all the employees are happy. When things are running smoothly, I take advantage of the opportunity to evaluate and improve our business processes, work on employee development, and implement long-term strategic goals. Some of my biggest successes aren’t about compensation at all. Problem-solving energizes me, and I consult with other department leaders to automate inefficient procedures, improve customer service levels, and bring innovative ideas to fruition across the workplace. My approach emphasizes compromise: I listen to all sides, find solutions that work for everyone, and chart a path to forward progress, smarter collaboration, and mutual understanding. My Strengths:✔ EMPLOYEE FOCUS: In addition to mentoring my own team, I am always looking for ways to improve the employee experience. For example, I engaged a translation service to serve our growing number of employees who don’t speak English. Empowering them to communicate via an interpreter frees the local HR’s time and elevates the service we provide for this group.✔ CHANGE LEADERSHIP: Another way I add value is reducing costs to the business by eliminating legal vulnerabilities. Recently, I led a comprehensive compliance review and removed several sources of risk. Additionally, I strengthened our data integrity, introduced multistate withholding, and consolidated multiple legal entities.✔ HUMAN RESOURCES TECHNOLOGY: Having led payroll operations from both the IT and HR perspective, I bring a unique blend of systems knowledge and functional experience. This year, I am leading the implementation of a modern, fully-integrated payroll package from vendor selection to final roll-out.
