I was one of the first ten full-time employees at Ava Labs, which grew to over 250 people by the time I left. I played an instrumental part in the development of the Avalanche blockchain network.I am the second all-time contributor on AvalancheGo, which currently has more than 2,100 stars. AvalancheGo is the client for the Avalanche network. That is, the Avalanche network is a set of thousands of instances of this program working together to process transactions. It's high throughput (can process thousands of transactions per second), low latency (each transaction is processed in ~2 seconds), byzantine fault-tolerant, extremely reliable (negligible downtime since it launched in 2020), and uses impressively few hardware resources. AvalancheGo secures billions of dollars of value and has processed billions of transactions. It was a lot of fun to build.Select highlights:* I owned and managed token custody operations for Ava Labs.* I am the second author on the Avalanche Platform Whitepaper, which lays out the design of the Avalanche network.* I am a co-inventor on a patent related to communication between blockchains.* I owned and managed the Avalanche Discord server, which has over 50,000 members.* For several years I owned and managed the documentation for Avalanche. I documented, among other things, AvalancheGo, including its command-line flags, configuration settings and APIs.* I helped design and implement the Avalanche consensus engine, network layer, and application (VM) layer.* I developed the codec AvalancheGo uses for serialization.* I led the initial development of the Avalanche Network Runner, a tool for running local Avalanche networks. This is a key tool used for testing AvalancheGo.* I led development of MerkleDB, a database using a Merkle-radix trie. It supports generation/verification of inclusion/exclusion proofs for key-value pairs, which allows users to efficiently sync a database in a byzantine environment.
