The functions of a Corporal are like that of a Deputy with additional duties to provide technical direction, investigative capacity, and leadership to deputies. While incumbents are normally assigned to a specific geographic area for patrol or traffic enforcement, all functional areas of the law enforcement field, including investigations, community preservation, administration, and training are included. Positions in the class are expected to display a significant degree of initiative, independent judgment, and discretion. This class is distinguished from Sergeant classification in that the latter is the first supervisory level in this sworn class series.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:The Corporal receives supervision from a Sergeant or Command Staff of a higher grade.
