Detective - Special Victims Unit
Current● Assume investigative responsibly over a wide variety of complex and sensitive cases● Conduct interviews with victims of crimes, as well as with witnesses of crimes● Conduct interviews and interrogations of suspects of crimes in accordance with their constitutionally afforded rights● Complete detailed reports documenting investigative measures taken; statements, facts, and evidence obtained; and any resulting actions, including arrests● When probable cause exists, drafting affidavit and arrest warrants and criminal complaints for individuals who are in violation of Rhode Island General Laws● When probable cause exists, drafting search warrants to further investigative efforts, including but not limited to those for private residences or vehicles; digital forensic evidence; DNA sample collection; cellular infrastructure and activity; internet activity and connectivity; live GPS/cellular location tracking; and online or social media accounts● When circumstances dictate, work in an undercover capacity to fulfil investigative needs● Work collaboratively with other local, state, and federal law enforcement partners; other government agencies such as the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General, the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families, Probation and Parole, and the Rhode Island Department of Health; medical facilities such as Hasbro Children’s Hospital and the Aubin Center; and social service organizations such as the Children's Advocacy Center at Day One● Prepare Grand Jury indictment packages, Grand Jury secret indictment packages, and felony screening packages consistent with the Office of Rhode Island Attorney General’s standards● Provide testimony in a variety of settings, including Superior Court, District Court, Family Court, and Grand Jury● Conduct pre-employment background investigations on Police Officer candidates, as requested
