The NY Pathological Society is one of the oldest societies in the United States devoted to Pathology and the various associated sciences. Founded in 1844 by a small group of physicians who were inspired by a similar society founded in Boston in 1828, it was envisioned as a collegial gathering to improve patient care through case discussion and the then current medical knowledge. It was incorporated in 1886 and continues the tradition of its founders to the present.

The fellowship combines diagnostic training and research opportunities related to the pathology of female genital tract disease and reproduction. Weill Cornell accessions approximately 8,000 gynecologic/perinatal specimens per year, which are handled separately through the Divisions of Gynecologic and Perinatal Pathology.

This is a one-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited program in tumor pathology during which fellows are actively engaged in the examination of anatomic pathology material submitted to the Department of Pathology under the supervision of the attending staff.

The Pathology Residency Program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center is fully accredited in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The program is based in the only academic medical center in Brooklyn--offering an outstanding training experience. Trainees are exposed to an exciting mix of case material at the three teaching affiliates: University Hospital of Brooklyn, Kings County Hospital Center, and the New York Harbor Healthcare System.
