Claimant Catastrophic Personal Injury Solicitor working with a team based approach primarily on severe brain injury cases that run into many millions of pounds worth of compensation. I also deal with CICA maximum award cases. As a part of my role I am required to act for and work with people who have suffered life changing injuries and require ongoing support from a legal advice point of view and also continued medical support. In such devastating circumstances as a solicitor I build a team of treating professionals to ensure that my clients have the best access to rehabilitation from an early stage and a panel of experts appropriate to their particular case. This requires instructing leading experts in their fields, the instruction of leading and junior counsel at the appropriate stages and the detailed process of presenting such a case to the Court.The work requires team work and strong working relationships to progress client’s cases and instructions and also to make the whole team an effective business unit. This means working with those directly involved in each client’s case and also with the wider team and colleagues in other disciplines within the firm. Planning and engaging in targeted business development activities to obtain appropriate work from new clients as part of the Team. Building networks of client referrers, understanding the market place both locally and regionally. Building a strong understanding of the other business areas and people within the firm for effective internal referrals.

Claimant personal injury fee earner with a responsibility for a caseload of 40 multi-track large loss cases. My caseload included CRPS, brain injury, serious fractures and spinal injury cases. Prior to this I had a caseload of 170-200 disputed and complex cases; consisting of liability disputes, causation issues, ‘low-velocity impact’ issues, fraud allegations and quantum disputes of both fast-track and multi-track claims. Claims were conducted from when a complex issue was raised through the litigation process; to trial if required. I represented clients at approval hearings, telephone advocacy hearings and accompanied my clients to inquests. I also attended conference with Counsel as necessary. My duties also involved developing more junior members of the team. I assisted with their queries and referrals. I checked and signed off their court documents and reviewed their cases at key stages. I was also responsible for auditing those team member’s files and identifying any training needs that they had. I held weekly ‘file-surgeries’ to discuss specific issues with particular cases that the more junior members of the team had. I was called upon to give advice to the directors of Admiral Law on key legal issues including the impact on claims where credit-hire is included in addition to the personal injury element of the claim. As a part of this advice, I was required to consider hire contracts, terms and conditions and interpretation of clauses with regard to the firm's legal expenses insurance contract.I also deputised for the team leader as required.

Personal injury (Claimant) fee-earner with responsibility for a caseload of 200; consisting of fast-track and lower value multi-track claims. Claims were conducted from inception through to trial; with a proven track record of achieving and exceeding financial targets. Claims included complex issues such as fraud allegations, ‘low-velocity impact’ allegations and substantial credit-hire cases; including cases where the terms and conditions of the hire contract are a contentious issue. I also spent a period of time on the Defendant team which included similar work but from the Defendant side.

Claimant credit-hire Litigator with responsibility for a caseload of 200-225 cases. Duties included: • Determining the validity of hire contracts, terms and conditions and clauses. • Regularly advising and updating client’s of their claims prospects. • Negotiating the settlement of claims.• Determining the need, period, rate and enforceability of the hire agreement. • Investigating impecuniousity. • Litigating files through the court process to Trial if necessary. • Briefing Counsel, preparing witness statements, advising the legal expenses insurer on the prospects of the case.
