Whilst retaining a portfolio of formal insolvency assignments, my recent experience has largely focussed on informal advisory and turnaround engagements. These roles vary in capacity between acting for and advising a particular stakeholder or working directly with the client to achieve a desired outcome, but often draw on my experiences from formal insolvency engagements.Examples of recent engagements include:- Acting for financiers, clients and equity providers in pre-lending, investigative accountant and independent business reviews.- Assisting in the managed wind-down of operations, including forecasting cash flows and stakeholder management.- Board advisory, assisting with the turnaround of underperforming business.- Working capital focussed projects to assist clients with planning, measuring and managing working capital in their business.- Assisting clients with the development and delivery of strategic planning.These projects have involved working with clients across a broad range of industries. Whilst my clients are often suffering some financial distress, I am increasingly engaged with highly successful clients looking to further optimise their performance.

In March 2011, I took an opportunity to move with Grant Thornton to Melbourne, initially on a short-term secondment, transitioning into a permanent move. My time in Melbourne has provided an opportunity to apply the skills and experiences from my time with Grant Thornton in London to a range of formal insolvency appointments and informal financial advisory roles including independent business reviews on behalf of banks and other financiers, pre-lending reviews and financial and operational performance monitoring.I manage a portfolio of formal insolvency appointments, which has involved:- management of trade-on receiverships and administrations;- preparation for and management of sale of business and property campaigns;- developing realisation strategies to achieve the best possible outcome from the insolvency appointment;- reporting to creditors - unsecured and secured (including Banks and other financiers) - on the status and expected outcome from the insolvency appointment.- dealing with complex legal issues, including those arising under PPSA.A large part of my time since joining Grant Thornton in Melbourne has focused on informal insolvency engagements, such as:- undertaking independent business reviews and investigative accountant reviews for banks, other financiers and company boards;- providing on-going monitoring reporting on financial and operational performance of businesses for banks, other financiers and company boards;- providing pre-lending reports to banks and other financiers; and- providing debt structuring and advisory services directly to clients.My experience has taken in a range of industries including food and beverage, manufacturing, transport and logistics and real estate and construction.

I started my career at Grant Thornton in London in the Recovery and Reorganisation team where I spent 3 years developing a base knowledge and experience in all forms of formal insolvency appointments across a broad scale of assignments.Key experience included:- administration, trade-on and going concern sale of hospitality group;- administration and subsequent liquidation of a car sales and rental business;- liquidation of a UK based company involved in laying underwater cables across a number of worldwide locations;- administration of property holding company (comprising both residential and commercial property);- administration of a provider of personal loans and second mortgages, including collections of the book over an extended period of time; and- liquidation of a large global conglomerate business with a focus in financial services and investments.
