Attended Humberside Engineering Training Association to get the skills in Mechanical Engineering for a NVQ Level 2. I received an NVQ Level 3 after a three year apprenticeship program, at the same time I studied a HNC in Mechanical Engineering at Grimsby Institute and then HND in Mechanical Engineering which was another year of studying whilst working. Throughout my time at Exolum (and it's previous iterations) I progressed from an Apprentice to Senior Technician in the space of four years and now have over ten years experience as a Technician. I am now responsible for undertaking and managing all maintenance work by staff and contractors including permits and sign off. I have career aspirations within Engineering and want to progress through to achieve my Mechanical Engineering BEng and continue to build on my portfolio of managing assets and people to achieve the best results. Currently I am directly in charge of a team of 10 technicians and maintain two upper tier COMAH sites in Immingham. This includes organising all permits and risk assessment required for all breakdowns and planned maintenance works across the two facilities. There are over 300 tanks and associated equipment to maintain including over 500 pumping systems that carry a variety of products from water to acids/alkalis and highly flammable and toxic materials. My next ambition is to progress through the company and look after the regional area of the Humber terminals which increases the facilities from two up to eleven and additional team members. The Humber region accounts for 43% of the Safety Critical work recorded across the UK in the Exolum network according to the most recent reports and will be expanding as the CMMS becomes increasingly accurate.Currently I am managing the two Immingham facilities which is a large task in itself because they are the two largest facilities in the North West European region. I am currently improving all of our risk assessments to ensure they are meeting industry standards and to best protect the technicians who work in my team and across the North West European region.
